POSITION SUMMARY:
The Head Sports Coach is an advanced coaching and program-support role responsible for delivering high-quality sports instruction and helping establish consistent coaching standards. The position supports a variety of sports and programs, including leagues, developmental classes, after-school and homeschool programs, clinics, camps, private and semi-private training sessions, tournaments, and special events for youth and adult participants.

The Senior Sports Coach provides guidance, coaching resources, demonstrations, and peer support to Sports Coaches and Instructors. This role works with venue and programming leaders to improve instructional quality, athlete development, safety, and the participant experience across venues. This is a non-supervisory role and does not include direct reports or formal personnel-management responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Deliver engaging, safe, and age-appropriate instruction across multiple sports, skill levels, and participant groups
  • Lead assigned leagues, classes, clinics, camps, private lessons, tournaments, and special events
  • Develop, adapt, and recommend standardized lesson plans, curriculum, skill progressions, and coaching resources
  • Establish and promote consistent coaching standards and instructional best practices across participating venues
  • Provide non-supervisory coaching support to Sports Coaches and Instructors through demonstrations, shadowing, skill sessions, and constructive feedback
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for sport-specific techniques, athlete development, class structure, and participant engagement
  • Help onboard and support Sports Coaches and Instructors by sharing approved curriculum, safety practices, and delivery expectations
  • Observe program delivery and identify opportunities to improve instructional quality, consistency, safety, and participant experience
  • Provide recommendations and program feedback to venue and programming leaders
  • Collaborate with venue leaders to support program implementation, scheduling needs, equipment requests, and special initiatives
  • Monitor participant progress and provide positive, timely, and constructive feedback to athletes and families
  • Adapt instruction for participants with different ages, abilities, experience levels, and learning needs
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, positive, and professional environment for athletes, families, and team members
  • Follow all applicable SFC and venue policies, procedures, safety standards, and child-protection requirements
  • Maintain required certifications, licenses, and sport-specific credentials applicable to assigned programs
  • All other duties as assigned by management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 3 years of coaching or teaching experience in youth and/or adult sports programs, with the ability to coach multiple sports or apply transferable coaching methods across disciplines
  • Experience developing or adapting lesson plans, curricula, training sessions, or coaching resources
  • Strong knowledge of coaching methods, athlete development, program safety, and participant engagement
  • Able to model professionalism, accountability, and service while influencing and supporting peers without formal supervisory authority
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills, with effective organization and time management
  • Adaptable and confident working across sports, age groups, abilities, program formats, and venues; willing and able to travel between participating SFC venues
  • Sport-specific certifications, licenses, or professional credentials preferred and required when applicable to assigned programs; current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within a specified period
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, predominantly after-school, evenings, weekends, and holidays
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
  • Must be able to move, carry, and properly use lightweight sports equipment
  • Position requires standing and leading physical activity for extended periods of time, indoors or outdoors
  • May be required to squat, stoop, jog, bend, demonstrate skills, and work in awkward positions while performing job functions
  • May be exposed to intermittent noise, high guest traffic, and varying indoor and outdoor conditions
  • May be required to travel by personal vehicle or other approved transportation between participating SFC venues
