Title: Student Assistance Program (SAP) Supervisor
Reports To: Director of Prevention, Training & Education
Classification: Exempt, Full Time
Summary: The SAP Supervisor is a pivotal leader who empowers school-based Student Assistance Program teams to address student needs with excellence, compassion, and expertise. This role provides high-impact consultation, strengthens team capacity, and champions the organization’s standards in prevention and intervention within educational environments.
The Council’s Student Assistance Services are provided by a trained team of state-certified, Bachelor’s & Master’s Level Student Assistance Program behavioral health liaisons assigned specifically to a school district. Services include assessment, consultation, referral, and/or small group education for SAP-identified youth.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field (such as psychology, social work, counseling, public administration, etc.), SAP Core Team Member Training certification, and 5 years of experience working in or with the K-12 PA Model Student Assistance Program, behavioral health, counseling, or related fields.
- Current Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal History Background Check; maintain with no violations.
- Proven effectiveness in program supervision, consultation, or training.
- Exceptional communication, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and adapt to shifting needs.
- Commitment to upholding confidentiality and strong ethical conduct with all stakeholders.
- Current valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, insurance, and regular access to a motor vehicle.
- Position is based in Bucks County with the expectation that the employee will work at locations in the community as needed, using a private vehicle.
Essential Duties:
- To provide supervision to all Behavioral Health Liaison School SAP Counselors;
- To maintain current knowledge of the Pennsylvania SAP model and best practices, and current laws affecting the program, and to disseminate such knowledge to the SAP teams;
- Responsible for needs-based planning with the schools;
- Monitor liaison activity in and availability for the schools;
- Support and ensure liaison implementation of a co-occurring model;
- Work independently and collaborate with community and organizational representatives.
Daily Job responsibilities:
- Provide BH liaison services to schools/districts when there is a gap in liaison services or extended absence of a BH liaison
- Provide monthly supervision to BH Liaisons
- Support Division Director with the planning and facilitation of monthly SAP meetings
- Attend county and district-level SAP meetings
- Participate in annual program monitoring and maintenance of required documentation for monitoring.
- Maintain data for required reporting as determined by the local SCA and Mental Health Offices
- Provide relevant training to students, parents, faculty, and staff, including the promotion of SAP and SAP services
- Collaborate and work with families, students, school personnel, and agency providers/personnel
- Utilize team engagement strategies such as conflict resolution and problem solving, consulting with school personnel and families
- Utilize youth and family engagement practices that support openness to the SAP process
- Understand cultural diversity and its role in working with students and families
- Understand procedures for accessing local resources for students and families
- Facilitate access to local resources with a warm hand-off whenever possible
- Understand trauma-informed care, suicide prevention, and intervention techniques
- Ensure knowledge of local child-serving systems and services, and the process for school crisis intervention and support services, including intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Participate in training that supports knowledge of current trends (i.e., Drug & Alcohol/ MH), co-occurring approaches, risk and protective factors, evidence-based prevention programs, typical/atypical child and adolescent behavior
- Ensure knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, school policies and procedures, and current best practices related to SAP, including ethics, SAP standards, and competencies
- Understand school-safety issues (e.g., bullying, hazing, harassment, discrimination, violence, morals offenses, etc.)
- Understand each district’s protocol as it relates to intervention, support, and postvention
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Prevention, Training & Education or the Executive Director.
