What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner - Neurosurgery position at The CORE Institute?
Responsible for providing medical care as delegated by the physician. This role is primarily inpatient based on the neurosurgical APP team working directly with our neurosurgeons. Responsibilities include floor coverage as well as OR first assisting in rotation with the team. Additional overnight call is optional with stipend available.
Prior Experience as an APP strongly preferred.

Essential job duties include:
- Perform new consults, post operative visits and nonoperative follow-up visits including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, and placing orders.
- Participate in hospital rounds with attending surgeons.
- Manage care of patients in collaboration with the attending surgeons.
- Triage patient via emergency room, trauma bay and transfer services.
- Communicate with different service lines to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families as appropriate.
- Complete appropriate documentation.
- Complete patient discharges including home instructions, follow-up and home prescriptions.
- Perform bedside procedures
- Serve as first assist to the physicians in the operating room.
- Maintain patient confidentiality
Education:
Master’s degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice from accredited program or Master’s degree from accredited physician assistant program.
General Requirements for Physician Assistant Includes:
Current Arizona physician assistant license by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Prior Experience as an APP strongly preferred.
General Requirement for Nurse Practitioner includes:
Current Arizona license for Registered Nurse. Current Arizona license for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse as Acute Care Nurse practitioner. Certification by national certifying body as approved by the Arizona APRN Board.
NP requirement to act as first assist in the OR includes completion of a program that covers the content of the AORN Standards for RN First Assist education programs as a standalone program or a portion of a graduate or postgraduate program.
