The Retail Attendant at The Cooper, plays a vital role in creating a warm, engaging, and personalized shopping experience for guests at the hotel’s luxury boutique. This position combines exceptional guest service with product knowledge, merchandising finesse, and a commitment to Forbes 5-Star service standards. The ideal candidate is well-groomed, approachable, discreet, and enthusiastic about luxury retail, wellness, and locally inspired offerings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet all guests with warmth, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm, using guest names when known.
  • Provide personalized shopping assistance, product recommendations, and thoughtful gift suggestions based on guest preferences.
  • Build rapport with guests, including VIP clientele, and support clientele efforts by maintaining detailed records of preferences and past purchases.
  • Ensure all guests are acknowledged promptly upon entry and receive seamless service throughout their boutique experience.
  • Accurately process all point-of-sale transactions including cash, credit card, room charges, gift cards, and exchanges.
  • Handle guest returns or issues with grace and empathy, ensuring service recovery where needed.
  • Assist with packaging and wrapping purchases to reflect the property’s luxury presentation standards.
  • Deliver purchases to guest rooms or coordinate with Concierge or Bell Staff as needed.
  • Maintain a pristine, elegant, and visually appealing boutique environment in accordance with seasonal displays and brand directives.
  • Replenish merchandise, fold garments, restock shelves, and ensure products are properly tagged and displayed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate low stock or overstock concerns to management.
  • Assist with inventory cycle counts and annual inventory processes.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of boutique offerings, including fashion, skincare, wellness products, local artisan goods, and branded hotel merchandise.
  • Stay informed about seasonal collections, new arrivals, and brand stories to enrich guest conversations.
  • Attend product trainings and actively engage in learning about the boutique’s curated selections.
  • Collaborate with retail team, spa, concierge, and front office to ensure guest requests and deliveries are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Assist with boutique events, pop-ups, and hotel gift programs as directed by leadership.
  • Support the boutique supervisor or manager with opening/closing duties, cleaning, and special projects.

Required Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of retail, guest service, or hospitality experience—luxury or boutique environment preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Forbes 5-Star or AAA Five Diamond hotel or resort is highly desirable.
  • Passionate about service, fashion, and wellness, with an eye for aesthetic detail and presentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; poised, articulate, and professional.
  • Proficient with POS systems and basic computer operations.
  • Able to handle transactions with integrity and maintain guest confidentiality at all times.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a colleague to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods (6–8 hours).
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs and bend or reach to stock shelves.
  • Comfortable working weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts based on hotel occupancy and boutique needs.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Good hearing is necessary for effective communication with colleagues, guests, and stakeholders.
