The Detailer is responsible for producing accurate, code-compliant door and hardware schedules and coordinating opening requirements in alignment with contract documents, specifications, and project needs. This role prepares detailed submittals, shop drawings, and supporting documentation, ensuring projects meet quality, compliance, and timeline expectations.
Essential Functions
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee will regularly communicate verbally and in writing, and must be able to see and hear in a typical office setting. The role frequently involves sitting, walking, standing, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with arms and hands.

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. It routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing systems. Occasional business travel may be required.

The Detailer is responsible for producing accurate, code-compliant door and hardware schedules and coordinating opening requirements in alignment with contract documents, specifications, and project needs. This role prepares detailed submittals, shop drawings, and supporting documentation, ensuring projects meet quality, compliance, and timeline expectations.
Essential Functions
- Review sales sheets, purchase orders, plans, and specifications for accuracy in estimated quantities, pricing, and project requirements.
- Detail and schedule openings, materials, and hardware to ensure compliance with contract documents, local codes, and customer expectations.
- Verify product costs, enter costs during the scheduling process, and compare to estimated costs to ensure budget alignment.
- Prepare submittals, shop drawings, schedules, and supporting documentation using Comsense and company-issued software.
- Create detailed elevations and sections as needed to support submittals.
- Identify and communicate discrepancies, compliance concerns, or required clarifications with architects, general contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Review schedules and submittals for accuracy and potential alternatives that may benefit the project.
- Update and resubmit submittals as needed; prepare projects for ordering in coordination with the Project Manager or Location Manager.
- Collaborate with Sales, Estimating, and Project Management to ensure smooth transitions across project phases.
- Complete all assigned work accurately, on time, and in compliance with building codes, ADA, UL, NFPA, and other industry standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Location Manager.
- 2–5 years of related experience in door, frame, hardware, or similar construction detailing required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in drafting, construction management, or related field preferred.
- Experience with Comsense Enterprise or Advantage strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and specification interpretation.
- Knowledge of door, frame, and hardware applications as they relate to UL, NFPA, IBC, ADA, life safety, and local building codes.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Comsense and related industry software preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with positive interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Detail-oriented, quality-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
