Job Overview
Wagner Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Earthwork Superintendent to oversee field operations for heavy civil and utility construction projects. This position is responsible for directing and supervising crews, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining efficiency in grading, excavation, and earthmoving operations. The Superintendent will also serve as the front-line Safety Officer, ensuring all work is performed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

- Assign job tasks and manage work priorities for grading, excavation, and earthmoving crews.
- Maintain daily job logs, production tracking, and as-built plans.
- Submit timecards, trucking reports, and material usage records weekly.
- Ensure all work meets project plans and specifications while identifying additional work as needed.
- Oversee the safety, tools, and equipment needs for each job to maximize production and efficiency.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and log all safety activities.
- Supervise operations, direct subcontractors, and manage material inventory in the absence of the Superintendent.
- Inspect equipment for safe operation and report maintenance needs to the Superintendent or Shop.
- Operate and oversee heavy equipment usage on-site when necessary.
- Maintain compliance with all DOT, OSHA, and safety regulations.
- Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in pipework, public works, or heavy civil construction.
- Previous field supervision experience required.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering plans.
- Valid driver's license required.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of utility, road, and highway construction methods and materials.
- Ability to identify additional work not specified in plans and ensure proper documentation.
- Experience with grading operations, excavation techniques, and heavy equipment management.
- Effective verbal communication and leadership skills to manage crews efficiently.
- Flexibility to work in various locations, with job sites changing daily.
- Availability for varied hours, including night shifts if required.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
- Regularly performs physical labor, including lifting, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Works around vehicles, heavy machinery, and moving equipment.
- Exposure to diesel fuel, exhaust fumes, and loud noise.
- Works outdoors in extreme weather conditions as needed.
