What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1:1 Private Independent Life Skills Coach for Neurodivergent Adult position at The Considerate Coach?
Job Summary:
As an Independent Life Skills (ILS) Coach, you will work with an individual both in their home and the local community, supporting them to develop independent living skills and actively engage in community life. The ILS Coach’s responsibilities include creating teaching materials, teaching, and modeling tasks of daily living, supporting job & career development, aiding in the success of a client’s personal goals, and providing support/leadership in a variety of settings. In addition, the ILS Coach provides support to address behavioral challenges that may impede the client from successful independence and community/workplace integration. The ILS Coach works in collaboration with a team of support systems (parents, personal trainer, case manager) in the client's life.
Essential Functions:
- Create a daily schedule (may include daily chores, AM routine, lesson, etc.) and document notes daily.
- Ensure the client completes his daily chores & introduce new chores/skills often.
- Work alongside the client at his workplace, helping him learn tasks and expectations. (His current volunteer site is Food for Thought Food Bank, one time per week.)
- Source new volunteer or work opportunities as needed.
- Facilitate opportunities for social engagement with peers, which may include serving as the point of contact between him and his peers and/or providing transportation (use personal vehicle required).
- Navigate unexpected changes or requests that will support the client's growth.
Client Summary:
The client is a 19 year old male. He enjoys sharing his love of music with others by either introducing them to new music (current favorite is Hip-Hop/Rap) or demonstrating his musical skills (he plays drums). He is diagnosed with ASD & ADHD. Struggles with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). He attended a special education school and graduated with a High School Diploma. He is taking a gap year to build up his Life Skills with the hopes of joining a supported College program in Fall 2026.
