Position Summary:
The Member Development Specialist is responsible for furthering The Conference Board, Inc.’s (TCB) research and education mission by performing strategic sales enablement and business development services in partnership with U.S. Sales Directors, to strengthen pipelines and facilitate the acquisition of new Members.
Member Development Specialists are tasked with utilizing specialty skills and tools, including AI, to conduct research and analysis and identify and qualify prospects, synthesizing relevant company and industry intelligence, and shaping sales preparation to facilitate substantive discussions with C-suite executives regarding our products and services.
Success in this position hinges on a combination of key competencies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and writing skills, advanced research and analysis skills, good professional judgement, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. An understanding of sales strategies coupled with exceptional customer service skills, are essential to thrive in this position.

Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with the U.S. Sales Directors to conduct thorough preparation for prospect calls including company background, industry trends, and a comprehensive understanding of the prospect’s needs and objectives, using judgement and discretion to determine relevance, depth, and strategic focus.
- Assist the U.S. Sales Directors in growing existing accounts by identifying upsell opportunities and recommending account expansion approaches based on research and opportunity analysis.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify high-quality leads and referral opportunities and help determine the best strategy to gain entry to a company, and assign lead prioritization and engagement strategy.
- Use independent judgement in creating proposals and follow-up materials, including emails, charts, upcoming events, and research, tailored to particular executive audiences and specific prospect contexts.
- Support the U.S. Sales Directors on all aspects of the sales process including opportunity development, pipeline planning, and executive-level engagement strategy.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in sales, business development, account management, or a related field.
- Experience in the prospecting and appointment setting role with proven ability to perform above quota is a plus, with demonstrated ability to influence opportunity outcomes and account growth.
- Experienced in full lifecycle of a sales process from lead generation to close.
- Proven history and determination to meet and surpass targets.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of various job functions, industries, and business sectors, enabling identification of relevant executive stakeholders.
- Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Consistent display of outstanding project management and research skills.
- Experienced self-starter who can perform well independently and with a team.
