The Executive Director of Community Youth Program at St. John’s, Inc. (CYP) implements, coordinates, and supervises the afterschool and summer program located in the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Roanoke, VA. Reporting to the CYP Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures implementation of academic and enrichment programming; supervision of staff; outreach to program partners, parents of participating students, and community resources; management of site facilities, and supplies; and plans and implements fundraising events and campaigns.
The ideal candidate has a passion to impact lives of the youth in the community, is detail-oriented, an effective listener, a strong team builder, and collaborates successfully with community partners. Candidates are encouraged to have a four-year degree and at least two years’ experience working with disadvantaged populations. Experience with grant writing and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities and Expectations
With Board of Directors
· Informs Board of Directors of general operations, activities, and concerns.
· Works with Board of Directors Treasurer and Accountant to prepare financial reports.
· Prepares and provides a monthly Director’s report to the Board of Directors.
· Reports critical incidents to the Board of Directors President within 24 hours of occurrence.
With Staff
· Communicates effectively with staff to fully inform and involve them in program planning and implementation.
· Responds to personnel conflicts when appropriate.
· Recruits, hires, orients, and supervises staff.
With Students and Families
· Maintains effective communication and successful relationships with parents/guardians.
· Effectively communicates clear expectations and conveys core program values.
· Safely and comfortably drives the 11 passenger van and 14 passenger mini-bus to transport children from school, activities, and home as necessary. Use of personal vehicle may be necessary at times.
· Coordinates Family Night dinner and programming for students and families.
With Community Partners and Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS)
· Maintains effective communication with RCPS schools and administration to ensure full enrollment and achieve academic objectives.
· Collects student educational progress reports and disseminates for grant reporting.
· Promotes CYP through print, web, and social media marketing.
· Designs and distributes newsletters, emails and other promotional material.
· Attends community events to raise awareness of CYP and/or recruit volunteers.
· Establishes Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with partner organizations when appropriate.
Financial Management
Best practices, annual budget, and organizational spending
· Provides records of current expenditure and income to the CYP Treasurer monthly.
· Has a working knowledge of and works within the annual budget parameters to monitor expenses in a fiscally responsible manner under the supervision of the Board of Directors.
· Approves, in coordination with the Board of Directors President and Treasurer, the purchases of goods and services, and the creation of the annual budget.
· Works with Board of Directors on long-range planning and strategies for resource development.
Event fundraising and non-event fundraising
· Works with the Board of Directors planning and implementing special fundraising events and campaigns.
· Responsible for all aspects of donor management, including donor acknowledgement, tracking, and solicitations.
· Bears responsibility for writing all grants for the organization.
Youth Development Programming
· Works directly with students reflecting child and youth best development practices.
· Oversees the development and implementation of youth programming.
· Supervises process of conducting intake sessions with students and families.
· Evaluates program effectiveness and designs program changes in accordance with evaluative input from the Board of Directors and community partners.
Pay: $57,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
