Title: Driver & Warehouse Associate

Reports to: Operations Management

I. Organizational Overview

The Community Kitchen was established in Keene, NH in 1983 to ensure that everyone in the community would enjoy the basic human dignity of having access to enough food to eat. For forty years, the organization has offered our neighbors hot meals and take-home groceries along with fellowship, resources referrals, education, and advocacy in support of food security for all. Our current programs, serving the Monadnock Region, are Hot Meals, Pantry, Mobile Food Pantry, Gleaning, and Advocacy.

III. The Role

This is a part-time position with potential to become full-time that serves as a key member of The Community Kitchen's Operations team. The role provides cross-functional support across pantry operations, warehouse operations, transportation, logistics, and food distribution initiatives to help ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the organization.

Responsibilities include supporting the Pantry Program, assisting with warehouse and inventory operations, participating in Mobile Pantry and Food Distribution Initiative activities, transporting food and supplies using Community Kitchen vehicles, and providing respectful, confidential, and dignified service to guests, volunteers, and community partners.

This position is intentionally designed to provide flexible, cross-functional support across warehouse operations, transportation, logistics, and pantry operations. As The Community Kitchen continues to grow, responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs, program expansion, and opportunities to strengthen operational effectiveness.

IV. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Community Kitchen vehicles, including 20-ft. refrigerated box truck, to transport food from partner agencies, food banks, retail donors, and community partners.
  • Complete scheduled Fresh Rescue pickups and other food recovery routes.
  • Assist with receiving, unloading, sorting, storing, and rotating food inventory.
  • Operate pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment safely.
  • Prepare food orders and deliveries for partner agencies and Community Kitchen programs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of warehouse, cooler, freezer, and loading areas.
  • Assist with facility upkeep and operational readiness.
  • Work alongside volunteers by providing guidance and ensuring safe work practices.
  • Cross-train in key Operations functions to provide coverage during vacations, illnesses, or other absences.
  • Accurately complete required inventory, transportation, and food safety documentation.

V. Reporting relationships

Drivers & Warehouse staff report to the Logistics & Procurement team manager. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

VI. Requirements

  • DOT card required (reimbursable through employment agreement)
  • Driver’s license and a clean driving record required
  • Ability to drive a 20’ refrigerated box truck, company panel van, and mobile food bus (airport shuttle size). Driving company vehicles is expected to be incorporated in the regular course of employment
  • Experience operating a pallet jack, preferably an electric pallet jack
  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, sit or stand for long periods, and work in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to follow directions and carry out multi-step organizing routines regularly
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn new systems and standards
