Full-time Assistant Teacher

The Children’s Center is looking for a Full-time Assistant Teacher to provide exceptional childcare and teaching services to enrolled children under the supervision of the Head Teacher and Educational Director in adherence to Department of Health and Center policies.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting one or more Head Teachers as requested.
  • Maintaining an orderly and nurturing environment for the children.
  • In cooperation with the Head Teacher, planning and implementing daily activities for the children which allow for each child’s educational, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Preparing supplies and the environment for activities.
  • Supervising daily activities as requested by the Head Teacher.
  • Comforting and guiding individual children who experience difficulty.
  • Observing, recording and reporting individual children’s behavior as assigned.
  • Regularly lift and carry a child weighing up to 40 pounds.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend to toileting and/or diapering needs of children as well as other self-care activities.
  • Oversee and assist snack/meal service and clean-up.
  • Participate in development and implementation of parent workshops.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age; have a High School diploma; must meet N.Y.C. Department of Health Bureau of Child Care requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: AAS/90 credits in Early Childhood Development and/or some experience working in a preschool with a diverse population.
