Employment Type: 35 hours per week/Full-time

Internal salary: Range 18/$55, $88,214.84

External salary: Range 18/$55, $63,410.34

UNION POSITIONS: The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below. The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.

Position Overview:

The Student Success Coordinator supports The College of New Jersey's mission by advancing student retention, persistence, and achievement. This role assists in the support of students in the Guiding Lions Mentoring and Commitment Scholars programs along with retention cohorts identified by MRSP. They also support the acadmiec sussess initiatives of first-generation college students. Assisting tthe Director of MRSP, this position facilitates workshops, delivers individualized success coaching, and collaborates with faculty, advisors, and campus partners to foster student progress and belonging.

Responsibilities:

  • Student Coaching & Case Management
  • Provide individualized academic success coaching for students associated with MRSP cohorts.
  • Assist students in creating and monitoring Academic Success Plans.
  • Maintain confidential case records and track student progress.
  • Coordinate referrals to appropriate campus resources, including advising, counseling, and tutoring services.
  • Early-Alert Intervention & Data Use
  • Utilize CSI and related tools to identify and proactively engage at-risk students.
  • Support outreach and follow-up processes for students flagged through early-alert systems.
  • Support the analysis of student retention data to inform programming and interventions.
  • Program Development & Facilitation
  • Facilitate workshops on academic skills, time management, self-advocacy, and motivation.
  • Assist in the development of accessible student success materials in digital and print formats.
  • Support major exploration programming and transitions for students seeking new academic pathways.
  • Collaboration & Campus Engagement
  • Partner with academic advisors, faculty, and staff to coordinate student support efforts.
  • Collaborate on campus-wide retention initiatives and participate on committees or task forces as assigned.
  • Collaborative programming with the Assistant Director of Intercultural Affairs focusing on first-generation college students.
  • Administrative and Professional Development
  • Contribute to assessment, reporting and continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Stay informed of best practices and emerging trends in student success and retention.
  • Serve as a liaison to the America Needs Your Organization.
  • Serve on the First-Generation Student Working Group.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in the humanities or social sciences.
  • 1-3 years in a student leadership or graduate assistant position (i.e., Residence Life, Student Ambassador, Teaching Assistant)
  • Experience working in an advising, mentoring, or recruitment area supporting first-generation and at-risk students.
  • Experience in academic coaching/ study skills training as well as working with student web-based academic information systems and learning management platforms.
  • Experience in program development/coordination.
  • Working knowledge of mentoring, retention and student success programs.
  • The ability to use technology to streamline services and offer efficient and effective communication to students. Strong working knowledge of how to maximize social media and content development platforms.
  • A familiarity of academically advising, specific to at-risk, first-generation, and traditionally underrepresented students.
  • Experience in creating and facilitating presentations and workshops as well as a background in providing equitable and differentiated learning experiences.
