Assistant Quality Manager

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Quality Manager to support and advance Cly-Del’s Quality Management System and oversee day-to-day quality operations in collaboration with our Quality Manager. This hands-on leadership role will play a key part in ensuring product conformance, maintaining customer satisfaction, and supporting the continuous improvement of processes, materials, and inspection methods.
This position is designed as a succession role, preparing the right candidate to eventually assume full leadership of the Quality Department. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical ability, proven manufacturing experience, and a passion for building robust systems that drive quality performance across the organization.
Quality Management & Compliance
• Support and enforce the company’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001 and related standards).
• Lead internal and external quality audits and coordinate all audit responses and corrective actions.
• Ensure product conformance to customer and regulatory requirements through process monitoring and validation.
• Assist in maintaining all quality documentation, including procedures, inspection plans, and control records.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, process capability, and first-pass yield.
Customer & Supplier Relations
• Serve as a technical liaison for quality issues between customers, engineering, and production.
• Participate in APQP, PPAP, and customer-defined approval processes.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding quality expectations, corrective actions, and performance improvement.
• Analyze and evaluate supplier quality performance to support strategic sourcing decisions.
Technical Leadership & Process Improvement
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions using 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA methodologies.
• Develop and track key quality metrics including yield, scrap, COPQ, and Cpk/Ppk performance.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of statistical process control (SPC) systems.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering to optimize processes for quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
• Lead or assist in the training of inspectors, operators, and supervisors in measurement methods and quality standards.
Metallurgical & Laboratory Support
• Learn and assist with metallurgical testing procedures in Cly-Del’s in-house laboratory, including hardness testing, microstructural evaluation, and material analysis.
• Support documentation and reporting of lab results for process validation and customer reporting.
• Collaborate with engineering to correlate metallurgical findings with process outcomes and product performance.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Prepare and present quality reports and management review summaries highlighting performance trends and risks.
• Participate in capital and technology evaluations for inspection and metrology equipment.
• Support Lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives across departments.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from accredited college or university, OR equivalent technical and manufacturing experience.
Experience
• 7–10 years of experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001; experience with other certification standards is a plus.
• Proven success in leading audits, implementing corrective actions, and improving process performance.
• Familiarity with metallurgical testing, materials evaluation, or laboratory procedures preferred (training provided).
• Experience with deep draw or progressive stamping operations strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality data management tools; ERP experience a plus.
Certifications (Preferred)
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
• Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification a plus.
