Position Summary

The Claussen Group is seeking an experienced Fleet & Equipment Mechanic to join our growing team. This is a skilled, hands-on position responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of trucks, trailers, landscape equipment, diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and small engines.

We are looking for a professional mechanic with a minimum of five years of commercial mechanical experience who takes pride in diagnosing problems correctly, completing quality repairs, and keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Manager, Grounds & Facilities Maintenance.

Compensation

$28.00–$32.00 per hour DOE (Depending on Experience)

Exceptional candidates with advanced fleet diagnostics, hydraulic troubleshooting, diesel engine expertise, welding, or CDL experience may receive additional consideration.

Essential Responsibilities

The Fleet & Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining company equipment in safe, reliable operating condition by performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

• Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair light-duty and heavy-duty fleet vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and hydraulic-powered equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, trailers, landscape equipment, and small engines.
• Repair and rebuild braking systems, steering components, suspension, drivetrains, and mechanical assemblies.
• Perform electrical diagnostics using appropriate testing equipment.
• Diagnose equipment failures and determine effective repair solutions.
• Service commercial mowing equipment, generators, pumps, chainsaws, and other small engines.
• Perform scheduled inspections to minimize equipment downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair documentation.
• Recommend equipment repairs, replacements, and preventative maintenance improvements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop.
• Operate company vehicles for testing and transportation of equipment.
• Assist with emergency equipment repairs during snow removal operations when necessary.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

• Minimum 5 years of professional mechanical experience in a commercial fleet, equipment maintenance, dealership, municipal fleet, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, or similar shop environment.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines.
• Experience repairing hydraulic systems and hydraulic-powered equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to independently identify mechanical failures and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
• Valid driver's license.
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• High school diploma or GED.

Preferred

• Technical or vocational mechanical education.
• Experience with commercial landscape equipment.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• CDL or ability to obtain one.
• Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, fuel, electrical, and electronic control systems.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Safely operate shop equipment and power tools.
• Must provide basic personal hand tools.
