CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer at The City College of New York, the Part-Time Student Psychological Counselor – Confidential Advocate provides trauma-informed support, counseling, and advocacy for students impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and discrimination. The role operates in compliance with VAWA, Title IX, Title VI, and the Clery Act. The Counselor must demonstrate competence in providing effective interventions to a culturally diverse young population.

(Campus-specific Information and duties)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and first responder for students seeking support related to gender-based violence, including sexual assault, dating/relationship violence, and stalking.
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling, crisis intervention, and emotional support to students who report experiences of gender-based violence or discrimination.
  • Offer students clear, sensitive, and timely information regarding on-campus and off-campus resources, reporting processes, and available supportive measures.
  • Coordinate and document referrals to internal and external services—such as medical care, mental health treatment, legal assistance, community agencies—and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • May facilitate educational programming or training for faculty, staff, or student groups on issues related to gender-based violence, trauma, and available campus resources (as assigned).
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with legal guidelines, ethical counseling standards, and institutional policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required.

Other Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • FETI Certification: Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview (FETI) training.
  • Clinical Certifications: Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) or specialized Post-Graduate Certificates in Trauma-Informed Practice.
  • Foundational Certificates: Professional Development Certificate in Trauma-Informed Care or similar credentials from recognized institutions.

Compensation

$63.55 to $85.77 per hour

Benefits

CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
