What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Event and Maintenance Staff position at the City of Willmar?
Purpose
Oversees events that take place at the Community Center. Reports any issues or information during event/ shift. Assists users to set-up and clean-up event. Communicates with event lead regarding what is needed for their event to run smoothly. Performs non-supervisory manual, semi-skilled and skilled work to perform routine maintenance.
Organizational Relationships
Communicates with: Internally – Public Works and Recreation Staff, Community Center Manager
Externally – Building renters, vending and supply companies, and other facility users
Essential Functions
- General supervision of facility
- Set up for meetings at Community Center: set up and take down tables and chairs, voting booths, and other equipment
- Customer service and address building residents, customers, and other individuals who come to the building property
- Help with rental groups and being their contact during events
- Keep City staff informed of all pertinent matters
- Knowledge of, and ability to understand, applicable safety practices and procedures
- Work with microphone/sound system setting up/turning on/off
- Secure building
- Sweep, vacuum and scrub floor surfaces; and clean carpets
- Empty all trash in office and common areas
- Shovel/remove snow from sidewalks, doors and entryways
- Oversee the operation and activities of events in the facilities
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts cleaning, painting and repairs and remodeling as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned Supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of sound equipment and technology
- Skill in trouble shooting and problem solving
- Ability to organize and compile information
- Ability to supervise a group to ensure events are safe and successful
- Ability to understand and follow applicable state, federal and city laws, rules and regulations
- Ability to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds
- Skill in operating vacuums, general cleaning equipment
- Knowledge and experience in overseeing events and programs
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently
- Skill in verbal and written communications
- Skill to diagnose problems with building systems and equipment
- Ability to repair building systems and equipment or notify Supervisor of need to secure outside assistance
Machines, tools and equipment used: telephone and fax, copier and computer, coffee machines, microwaves, hand tools, vacuum, warming roasters, microphone equipment and sound system, projector screen and projector equipment; door operating system, floor scrubber, wet and dry vacuum, numerous hand tools and carpentry tools
Working Conditions
Majority of time is spent indoors at City facilities. Work is performed primarily during nights and weekends. Performs a variety of physical movements such as bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting/turning. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery. Performs a variety of lifting with objects frequently weighing over 50 pounds. Occasionally enters confined spaces and works at heights up to 30 feet. Exposure to irritants/fumes, hazardous chemicals, vibrations, infectious diseases, noise and electric shock. Uses all types of vision, except color, hearing and sense of touch.
