Position Summary:
Mathewson Street United Methodist Church is seeking a Peer Recovery Support specialist to assist with our outreach program.
Hours: The Peer Recovery Specialist will work approximately 30 hours per week, always including: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9am –2pm, and Sundays from 7am – 2pm.
Compensation: $750/ week
Duties: The Peer Recovery Specialist will assist the Director of Communications and Outreach with general outreach and case management services as needed. In addition to providing general basic needs assistance to our participants, the Peer Recovery Specialist will either perform or oversee volunteers performing special tasks related to addiction recovery. These activities include but are not limited to:
Qualifications:
Lived experience with addiction and recovery
Narcan training and fentanyl test kit training
Welcoming and friendly disposition
Good organizational skills and strong work ethic
English literacy and ability to track metrics in a database
Ability to navigate recovery resources in the community
Must be comfortable and have extensive experience communicating effectively and respectfully with people from all walks of life, including those experiencing homelessness
Bilingual Spanish skills appreciated but not necessary

In addition to providing general basic needs assistance to our participants, the Peer Recovery Specialist will either perform or oversee volunteers performing special tasks related to addiction recovery. These activities include but are not limited to:
- Facilitate an AA/NA meeting every day that outreach services are open
- Conduct Narcan trainings as needed
- Distribute Narcan and fentanyl kits as needed
- Carry Narcan at all times and monitor people in and around our building throughout the day for signs of intoxication or overdose
- Provide 1:1 sobriety and recovery support counseling as needed
- Assist participants to find rehab beds, detox resources, and recovery housing when appropriate
- Foster an environment of joyful service, respect and acceptance
- Track the following metrics:
- Attendance at AA/NA meetings
- Unique individuals obtaining sobriety housing
- Unique individuals entering a program for detox, rehab, and recovery
- Narcan kits and fentanyl kits distributed
- Emergency rental supports and hotel stays that support sobriety and recovery
