What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firefighter position at The City of Oskaloosa?
The City of Oskaloosa is accepting applications for the position of entry level firefighter to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for this classification. The list will be valid for up to two years from the date of certification by the Oskaloosa Civil Service Commission and may be used to fill vacancies in this classification as they become available.
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older, be a high school graduate or hold a GED equivalent; additionally, all candidates must be a Firefighter I prior to testing. State of Iowa or National certifications at or above this level will be accepted. Must be able to possess and maintain a State of Iowa EMT Certification, within (12) months of hire date, if a class is available. Applicants must pass a physical agility test, written test, and a scored oral interview. This testing is to establish a Civil Service eligibility list for future hiring within the Oskaloosa Fire Department.
The City of Oskaloosa does not currently have an open firefighter position, and candidates will be hired from the Civil Service list as positions become vacant.
