Job Summary
We are seeking a City Public Works Director to lead and oversee the planning and maintenance of the City’s Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems. This job involves being responsible for water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, and public areas. This position requires a positive attitude and being respectful of vendors and members of the community.
Essential Job Duties
- The operation and maintenance of the Water Utility Distribution, Treatment and Wastewater Systems and facilities.
- Obtains various water and sewer samples daily.
- Work with DNR and City Engineers regarding all processes and regulations of the DNR.
- Flushing of hydrants and pump house maintenance.
- Respond to complaints and emergencies in a timely manner. This position is on call 24/7.
- Snow Removal on all City Streets and City Sidewalks. Must be able to work when weather dictates.
- City Property: Blackwork/Gravel work as necessary. Weed Control, tree pruning on all City Property including boulevards. Mowing parks and public areas.
- City Buildings: Perform miscellaneous cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of City Owned buildings, park equipment and pool. Identify and plan repairs as necessary.
- Generator maintenance.
- Lift Station maintenance.
- Inspects and/or repairs water tower, wells, lagoon, meter, streets, drainage and sewer systems.
- Maintain a variety of inspection records, water supply, consumption, usage pumped and sewer testing.
- Determine and mark the locations of water, wastewater and storm drain lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
- Responds to complaints.
- Drives trucks, tractor and other equipment.
- Keeps equipment clean and well maintained.
- Maintain records on work performed, equipment breakdowns and required documentation to advise City Council.
- Maintain the City's swimming pool and filtration system.
- Maintain parks, ballpark and facilities. Inspect playground equipment for safety.
- Maintain and burn debris at the tree dump.
- Clean tools and equipment after use and store in appropriate locations.
- Maintain written inventory of all supplies and work with City Clerk to order supplies.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License and Insurability
- Mechanical Ability
- Basic Computer Skills
- Ability to work long hours outdoors. Ability to work evenings and weekends, occasionally, under adverse weather conditions
- Ability to operate a variety of hand power tools
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work alone to complete necessary duties
- Possess or the ability to obtain Iowa Water Distribution and Water Treatment Operator within 2 years of employment
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
