Under the supervision of the Director of Development Services, the Assistant Director of Plan Services assists in the administration and coordination of all activities in the Development Services Department. The Assistant Director also, plans, manages and directs the activities and operations of the Plan Services Division. The Assistant Director coordinates assigned projects with other city departments and outside agencies while providing support to the City Administration, elected officials and other boards and commissions. As a representative of management, supports the mission, vision, strategic plan, goals and decisions of the department and the City.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning or a related field required
• Minimum seven years’ experience in municipal or public planning, engineering, architecture or related (advanced degree may be substituted for two years of experience)
• Minimum of three years’ supervisory experience required and
• Valid State motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record required
• Professional registrations and/or certifications in a related field required
• AICP certification preferred but not required

Typical Qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge of zoning law, urban planning principles and practices
• Comprehensive knowledge and familiarity with engineering and construction standards
• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, architecture, infrastructure, program development and administration, municipal budget preparation and administration, supervision, training and performance evaluation
• Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply local, State and Federal laws, codes and regulations
• Skills to analyze programs, policies and operational needs
• Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and database or similar software
• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with developers, elected officials, city staff and the public
• Ability to plan, organize, direct and coordinate multiple activities
• Ability to analyze problems to identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $87,961.00 - $131,939.00 per year
