Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Program Assistant is to assist in the operation of the Summer Food Service Program.
(Position is seasonal June - August)
The employee will be responsible for providing meals to children in an efficient, safe and sanitary manner, as well as
monitoring and maintaining the program's accounts inventory and supplies. The Program Assistant works with a team of
HHS staff as well as various volunteers.

monitoring and maintaining the program's accounts inventory and supplies. The Program Assistant works with a team of
HHS staff as well as various volunteers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists in all aspects of Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
- Assists in preparation of meals.
- Takes meals to offsite location.
- Serves meals in compliance with all MSDE/USDA/Health Department guidelines.
- Assists in clean up after meal service.
- Monitors and maintains program accounts, inventory and supplies.
- Works cooperatively with volunteers and children.
- Assists with program promotion and outreach.
- Maintains a professional and helpful demeanor with children, parents and staff.
- Drives organization vehicle as needed.
- Operates all kitchen equipment including dishwashers, ovens, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, including washing and sanitizing dishes, utensils, pots and pans.
- Participates in other departmental needs as assigned, including working in Food Distribution Center.
- Provides a warm, caring environment in a professional and courteous manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with the general public.
- Commitment to professional ethics and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret documents using the English language.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, self-motivated, and capable of taking initiative.
- Vehicle Operator’s license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City’s insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
- Ability to safely drive cargo and passenger vans.
- Ability to communicate using American Sign Language.
- Ability to communicate using the Spanish language.
