Workdays & Hours: This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. This is a Full-Time position working 40 hours a week, in addition this position may require you to travel to various locations.

An Animal Shelter Technician (Foster/Rescue Team Member) position is available with The City of Fort Worth Code Compliance department. This position will focus on assisting the shelter’s animal fostering program and transfer partner network. Our Animal Care and Control department has hundreds of dedicated volunteers, fosters and partners who help the staff and animals with various tasks. Our foster and transfer programs have grown greatly and we are seeking an individual who can help us continue to strengthen and expand these programs.
The selected individual must be an effective communicator who is able to demonstrate diplomacy, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills while working with a culturally and ethnically diverse staff, volunteer, and community base.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- No prior experience.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Candidate selected for hire must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of experience in handling domestic animals.
- Six (6) months of customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills.
- Proficient in use of PetPoint shelter software system.
The Animal Shelter Technician responsibilities include:
- Feeding, watering, cleaning after and caring for animals in and around existing quarters.
- Performs administrative duties, which include verifying animal ID numbers in PetPoint, answering phones, providing public information.
- Facilitating intake/outcome processes.
- Maintaining a good working relationship with partnering agencies, volunteers and fosters.
- Driving City vehicles to transport animals from multiple locations as assigned.
- Monitoring animals for any medical/behavioral issues.
- Assesses animals, and completes blood work and vaccinations.
Working Conditions
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation.
Physical Demand
Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
