What are the responsibilities and job description for the FT Carpenter – Street Division - Public Works position at The City of Dalton?
The City of Dalton Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for a Carpenter. This is a full-time position in the Street Department with a starting pay rate to be determined based on experience. Primary job duties for this position include: building and setting forms for various concrete structures such as catch basins, drop inlets, sidewalks, curbing, and other roadway structures; assisting with placing and finishing concrete; helping with placement of storm drain piping and installation of drainage structures; operating large equipment such as backhoes, skid-steers, asphalt spreaders/rollers, tractors, and driving single/tandem axle dump trucks. Additional duties include the use of hand tools, such as a mechanical tamp, concrete saw, and chainsaw; excavating footers, placing blocks and backfill, including lifting up to 50 pounds frequently; may be used as a flagger for traffic control at a work site; and other duties as assigned. Applicants must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License. However, a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license is desired for most positions and must be obtained within six months of employment. The City of Dalton Public Works Department will provide the required Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license training and reimburse the cost of the driver’s test once passed.
