Job Description:
This role will review and process applications for and inspect vehicles and sites associated with towing and vehicle immobilization companies, pedicab companies, limousines, and taxis, investigate complaints concerning violations of municipal code, enforce municipal codes, and develop and improve existing processes.
Examples of Duties:
- Reviews and processes applications and permits for towing and vehicle immobilization companies, pedicab companies, limousines, and taxi vehicles.
- Inspects towing companies, immobilization companies, pedicab companies, limousine, and taxi vehicles periodically for evidence of code violations.
- Ensures that companies have proper permits and their storage sites and regulated parking lots meet current municipal codes.
- Interviews citizens regarding complaints, inspects company vehicles and sites, investigates reports of violations, and enforces municipal codes accordingly.
- Contacts owners and explains nature of inspection and investigation findings and encourages voluntary action to resolve problems.
- Studies laws and statutes in municipal code, such as the City’s non-consensual tow ordinance, to determine specific nature of code violations and type of action to be taken including.
- Issues notices of violation to owners or citizens not complying with request for voluntary correction of problems.
- Reviews, inspects, and enforces other municipal codes and contracts associated with Traffic and Transportation, including the political sign ordinance, vegetative growth and sight visibility issues, vision clearance ordinance, and bikeshare company contract and bikeshare locations.
- Prepares case materials when legal action is required to solve problems and may appear in court to testify if needed.
- Conducts or participates in informational meetings for citizens and company owners.
- Maintains appropriate records and prepares required reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
