What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Construction Inspector position at The City of Alliance?
REPORTS TO: CITY ENGINEER / SAFETY SERVICE DIRECTOR
POSITION PURPOSE: To inspect construction and roadway projects within the City of Alliance for the Engineering Department in compliance with AASHTO and ODOT installation methods and requirements.
SCOPE OF WORK: Predominantly field work supervising and inspecting contractors completing projects for the City of Alliance. Will only be needed when projects are being constructed thus a seasonal style position. Serves as intermediary between the Engineering Department and the contractor. Work requires considerable judgement, initiative, and professional knowledge of construction methods and techniques. Reviews change orders and estimates, tracks quantities used on job sites, coordinates with the contractors. Represents the City with contractors and other governmental entities on site. Limited nights and weekends unless the contractor’s schedule require additional time.
WORKER Ability to work effectively and efficiently with the public and private contractors.
CHARACTERISTICS: Good communication skills, organized and timely. Ability to operate within the policies, procedures, standards, and regulations of the Engineering Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and other organizations.
DESIRABLE Some education beyond high school, preferably with graduation from a
QUALIFICATIONS: vocational school and experience in the building and construction trades. One to three years of experience is preferred. Ability to read engineering drawings. Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word. Knowledge of ODOT standards and standard construction drawings. Knowledge of roadway construction methods and principles. Must have a valid driver’s license.
