Job Description
Perform a variety of specialized, routine and non-routine tests, procedures, and examinations in one or more areas of work, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular, urinalysis, immunohematology for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and lead the daily workflow and work activities of the specimen processing and phlebotomy areas.
Monitors departmental workflow for productivity and efficiency, including monitoring of staffing patterns to assure maximum productivity & scheduling to maximize the use of associate’s time.
Maintains competency in all processing and phlebotomy tasks. Provides hands-on backup support to the processing and phlebotomy team.
In partnership with the laboratory managers, participates in interviews and recommends hiring of associates; coordinates training; assesses the competency of staff; evaluates performance of associates; and when necessary recommends discipline and discharge.
Assists in the documentation of performance improvement activities. Consults with both internal and external customers to assess needs and to provide superior customer service. Recommends and implements changes to work processes. Reviews and follows up on customer concern forms with lab support staff.
Serves as a liaison between the laboratory and all external customers. Communicates regularly with nursing leadership; particularly during times where the laboratory experiences difficulty meeting the workload demands. Coordinates a course of action in conjunction with nursing leadership to ensure all necessary lab work is completed.
Provides assistance to the manager by performing all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED required.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Four Years Of Phlebotomy Experience Preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of laboratory operations; familiarity with laboratory departments, functions and processes; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; PC word processing, and spreadsheet skills.
