The CT Technologist operates CT scanners to obtain high‑quality diagnostic images of specified body parts as ordered by a physician. You’ll function independently with minimal supervision while ensuring exceptional patient care, accurate imaging, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
What You’ll Do
Patient Experience & Communication
- Greet and identify patients using approved safety protocols
- Obtain and review patient history, medications, allergies, and required documentation
- Clearly explain CT procedures and contrast administration, addressing questions and concerns
- Proactively communicate delays or needs to patients and family members
- Collaborate professionally with physicians, offices, coworkers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Uphold hospital policies and Excel Core Values, striving to exceed expectations
Clinical & Imaging Responsibilities
- Position patients, perform CT scans, and archive studies per established protocols
- Produce diagnostic‑quality images within quality control parameters for radiologist interpretation
- Perform venipuncture and administer contrast media safely and accurately
- Identify, prepare, administer, and document medications according to policy
- Reconcile patient medications to assess contrast compatibility
- Verify physician orders and assist with invasive procedures when applicable
- Support coworkers across imaging modalities as needed (IV starts, patient prep, system tasks)
Patient & Radiation Safety
- Use radiation‑reducing techniques without compromising image quality
- Protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure
- Properly wear, store, and exchange radiation dosimeters
- Follow all National Patient Safety Goals, HIPAA guidelines, and emergency protocols
- Safely transport and assist patients to prevent falls or injury
Information Systems & Documentation
- Ensure all images are accurately linked in PACS
- Complete and verify required documentation, histories, and questionnaires
- Maintain proficiency with RIS, PACS, and charge capture systems
- Accurately document contrast usage and patient data
- Prepare and burn images to CD as needed
Department & Team Accountability
- Maintain active ARRT and Ohio Department of Health licensure
- Attend required department meetings, in‑services, and training
- Assist with scheduling needs to optimize patient flow and equipment use
- Maintain stocked, clean rooms and properly functioning equipment
- Report equipment issues promptly and assist with workflow improvements
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to cross‑train in additional modalities
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an ARRT‑accredited Radiologic Technology program
- CT certification required or eligible per ARRT guidelines
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of related experience preferred
- Acute care or hospital‑based CT experience a plus
Licensure & Certifications
- ARRT Board Certification (Radiography required; CT preferred)
- Active Ohio Radiographer License (ODH)
- CPR certification preferred
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, sterile and isolation techniques
