What are the responsibilities and job description for the English/Social Studies Teacher position at The Chiles Academy?
We are searching for a core academic teacher in grades 6-12 certified in English and/or Social Studies in an alternative education program for parenting students. As our certified English Teacher, you will:
- Set the goals of the student within each course, with both timely progress and comprehension
- Understand how to plan for effective classroom instruction in live taught and online learning settings by utilizing higher level reasoning skills, central concepts, and key elements of the discipline
- Remediate online coursework depending on student need and academic gaps
- Create lesson plans that effectively utilize all materials and resources available to achieve the objectives of the curriculum and adheres to state standards
- Keep and maintain accurate assignment calendars, lesson plans, and grade books
- Create an environment that is conducive for student learning and involvement
- Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety
- Models positive engagement with school culture and mission
- Model appropriate personal and professional boundaries
- Create learning objectives that are clear and relevant to curriculum
- Promots confidence and perseverance in the student that stimulate increased personal student responsibility for achieving the goals of the curriculum
- Promote graduation requirements, necessity of obtaining credits, achieving a strong GPA, college readiness, etc
- Strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning and demonstrate empathy and understanding of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds of learners
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity throughout TCA community
- Utilize data to assess the progress and academic growth of students
- Assesse and manage daily student progress using real-time data entry in online learning setting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with major in subject being taught or related area
- Attains and/or maintains certification and endorsements by required deadlines
- Minimum one year teaching experience, preferably in an at-risk youth environment, or equivalent experience leading in an academic capacity
- Valid Florida ID or Florida Driver’s License
- Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening
- Knowledge of state and school districts policies preferred
