The Children's Center of Medina County is dedicated to reducing trauma for children and families impacted by abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The organization provides a safe and supportive environment, offering essential services that facilitate healing and recovery.


Summary:

Conducts and coordinates highly specialized interviews of children making reports of sexual and physical abuse and neglect; participates in pre/post interview multidisciplinary case staffing; prepares written reports of interviews. Case coordination among the various systems (law enforcement, child protective services, medical, mental health and prosecutor’s office) to schedule forensic interviews and medical evaluations of suspected child sexual abuse.


Duties Include:


Forensic Interviewing

· Conduct forensic interviews of children and adolescents alleging sexual and physical abuse, usually during regular office hours, occasionally after hours.

· Facilitate pre and post interview multidisciplinary case staffing.

· Prepare written summaries of interviews and other required case documentation.

· Manage confidential and updated case files for all cases that engage with CCMC.

· Manage and up-keep of interview room, recording equipment, and technology required to operate the interview room.

· Oversee interpretation and translation services for the interviews or follow-up with families.

 

Case Management Support

· Respond to subpoenas and testify in Court when requested.

· Participate in case reviews, peer reviews, and present cases when requested.

· Monitor interviews conducted by police officers or social services and give input as needed.

· Assist the Family Advocate, therapist and other treatment providers in the development of treatment plans for child victims and their non-offending family members.

· Develop and maintain interagency communication and networking regarding child abuse and the role of the Child Advocacy Center at CCMC.

· Collaborate with staff and other stakeholders to implement and operate a successful medical program within CCMC.

 

Data Collection and Maintenance

· Enters and maintains NCATrak database with all case relevant information to remain compliant.

· Ensure adherence to position related grant goals and objectives.

· Maintain statistical records to track outcomes and ensure goals and objectives are met.

· Maintain confidentiality of all client information and other agency information.

 

Community Outreach and Professional Responsibilities

· Create and conduct training presentations throughout the community.

· Participate in outreach events.

· Participate in supervision, professional development and on-going training activities including being trained in Forensic Interview technique.

· Perform other tasks and responsibilities as requested by Executive Director.

 

Specific Job-Related Requirements:

· Must be able to work well with children.

· Must be able to work in stressful situations.

· Must be able to work independently as well as function as a team member and accept guidance and direction from the Director.

· Must be able to work with a variety of people, including clients and their families, professionals in the areas of law enforcement, medicine, education and agency employees.

 

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to deal with a variety of emotions under stressful situations and be able to deal with people who may be very upset. Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.

· Requires a normal range of hearing, eyesight, coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to record, prepare and communicate reports and operate office equipment.

 

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, child development, education or a related field or a master’s degree in social work or forensic science.

· Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working with children and families where abuse and violence are identified issues is required. Requires professional experience in working with the criminal justice or child welfare system and has been or will be trained in a Forensic Interview Technique.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including accuracy of grammar, punctuation, spelling, proofreading, and professional telephone skills.

· Organizational skills, with flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and various assignments in a sometimes fast-paced environment.

· Proficient in the use of a computer, including typing, email, internet, websites, Microsoft programming and ability to learn other computer programs.

· Ability to work well with others, including children, youth, and families.

· Valid driver’s license, transportation, and vehicle insurance.

· Ability to handle confidential information.

 

Considerations:

· Maintaining confidentiality of all client information and other agency information is essential.

· Employee is occasionally required to lift 10-15 lbs.

· The employee will spend approximately 50% of the time sitting, 20% standing, 20% walking, 10% stooping, climbing and kneeling.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires a successful National criminal background check, drug test, SACWIS (Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System) check, sex offender registry check, and reference verification to remain compliant with National Accreditation Standards.
