Founded in 1876, The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCC/BSD) is one of the oldest institutions in the U.S. dedicated to the education of children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have other special communication and learning needs. Over the years, the school expanded its mission to serve children with additional challenges such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, developmental delays, and physical disabilities. The school currently supports close to 150 children and their families from 40 different communities. With a strong emphasis on diversity and tailored educational programs, CCC/BSD strives to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for all its students.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf, based in Beverly, MA. The teacher will be responsible for providing individualized education plans, lesson planning, direct instruction, and support services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students across different settings, including public schools. Duties include collaboration with educational teams, assisting in the development of communication skills, ensuring accessibility to the curriculum, monitoring student progress, and providing professional guidance and training to other educators and staff.
Qualifications
- Experience in Lesson Planning and the ability to adapt to individual student needs
- Strong background in Education, particularly special education or working with students with unique communication and learning needs
- Exceptional Communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, families, and professionals
- Proficiency in Teaching and guiding students in academic and social-emotional areas
- Experience in providing Training and support to other educators or staff
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or a demonstrated willingness to achieve fluency
- State certification or eligibility for certification as a Teacher of the Deaf
- Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field is preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning experience for all students
