The mission of The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri is to deliver excellence in child abuse response, offer a path towards healing, and educate the community. We provide expert forensic interviews, child and family advocacy, and therapy services for children and families when they need it most. We also present school and community- based prevention programs to educate children about appropriate boundaries and empower victims to disclose abuse to safe adults. Position Description:

This position contributes to the mission of The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri (CACNEMO) by providing advocacy, crisis support and case management services to child victims of sexual and physical abuse and for children who witness violence/crimes and their involved family members and caretakers.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide crisis intervention to child and the involved caretaker which may include both crisis calls and in-person crisis situations.
  • Participate fully in the pre and post interview meetings with the MDT.
  • Ensure children and the involved caretaker get the culturally-sensitive support, education and resources they need to overcome the trauma of abuse.
  • Provide psychoeducation to involved caregivers and the community on variety of abuse related topics.
  • Connect the involved caretaker with necessary resources in the community.
  • Coordinate SAFE exams for children and make sure the medical provider has the necessary information for the child.
  • Complete the OMS Initial Caregiver Survey with each family after the post interview meeting.
  • Maintain contact with the involved caretaker to ensure their needs are met, answer questions and provide on-going support.
  • Provide assistance for family in applying for Victim Compensation.
  • Assist with the organization, management, and facilitation of multidisciplinary team case reviews for all assigned counties. This role may be done in conjunction with the Forensic Services Coordinator.
  • Keep MDT members informed of new cases and developments in existing cases.
  • Provide, or arrange for, court preparation services for children having to testify in court if a victim advocate from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is unavailable.
  • Maintain contact notes for assigned cases and files.
  • Present Strengthening Families Program on behalf of CACNEMO.
  • Follow all NCA accreditation standards and best practices.
  • Complete monthly billing for the assigned grant.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings.
  • Attend office and community meetings as well as trainings as requested by supervisor.
  • Assist Lead Forensic Services Coordinator with MDT engagement and relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human service field or criminal justice plus one year direct services experience working with abused children and families. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills, have the ability to multitask and have a strong commitment to direct services for children and families. Candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team within CACNEMO as well as the multidisciplinary team.
