What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician III Billing Specialist position at the Chickasaw Nation?
We are currently looking for a Full Time Pharmacy Technician III Billing Specialist to join our Pharmacy Business Office team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Summary:
This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health with the duty station at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center. The purpose of this position is to provide and ensure optimal electronic billing services and to provide Pharmacy support services to Native American beneficiaries. This position's primary focus is the maintenance of pharmacy billing but may include technician duties when time allows. Pharmacy personnel must maintain high attention to detail as incorrect medication dispensing can cause injury/death.
- Manages and orders office inventory, equipment, uniforms and/or other operational supplies
- Develops and maintains documentation as appropriate - files, logs, records, reports, etc.
- Answers the phone, transfers call, takes messages and screens calls per guidelines for areas served
- May input all CII orders from hard copy and fill them with double check from a pharmacist
- Participates in performance improvement activities to measure, assess and improve the quality of assigned work area
- Maintains confidentiality, security, and integrity of data and information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Assists the pharmacist with filling and labeling of prescriptions and communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorizations
- Checks for out-of-date drugs, puts orders away, and prepackages medications in accordance with Pharmacy policies
- Performs a variety of clinical and technical assignments to include typing letters, memoranda reports and other material
- Places material into final form unless otherwise instructed
- Assists patients in obtaining information on Pharmacy services, medication refills, etc. as per Pharmacy policies education. Will need to be proficient using the pharmacy system to Not only fill refills but also the POS system for dispensing to patients
- Responds to third party requirements on post-payment reviews, exclusions, denials, and appeals
- Communicates with claims processing personnel and facility staff to identify problems with applications and operating systems
- Compiles and types letters of correspondence to third party agencies regarding insurance claims and keeps the pharmacy manager informed
- Searches and retrieves individual patient health care records to gather and compile information for outpatient services
- Maintains Medicaid, Medicare, and private/commercial insurance manuals and directives and also maintains provider reimbursement manuals
- Compiles financial charts
- Verifies eligibility to third party payers
- Analyzes and maintains the electronic portion of pharmacy billing operations for third party programs and acts as an advocate for the health system in the collection of alternate resources
- Compounds simple oral solutions, ointments, and creams that doesn’t require a house control number
- May type in hard copy prescriptions
- Performs the prescription review, determines refill status, and patient follow-up dates and prescription quantities in coordination with pharmacist for clarification
- Assists with the control inventory of medications, equipment, and devices according to established policies and procedures
- May assist in placing order from prime vendor and/or hard to find companies
- May assist in medication reconciliation
- Assists with orientation, special activities and training on specific procedures, tasks or equipment
- Provides first class customer service to both internal and external customers and responds to inquiries, compliments, and/or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency
- Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities
- Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types
