We are currently looking for a Full Time ICU RN to join our Intensive Care Unit Nurse Team team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.

Summary:

Performs comprehensive assessments and develops patient-centered care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Provides professional nursing care, education, and administers intravenous therapy including medications, fluids, and nutrition per physician orders.

Responsibilities:
  • Plans and provides comprehensive patient care by utilizing and documenting the nursing process: including teaching patients and their families, and discharge planning
  • Administers prescribed medications, IV fluids, and blood products according to facility policies and procedures
  • Advocates age and culturally appropriate, holistic patient care based upon facility mission statement, facility policies, and the nursing department standards and policies
  • Ensures adherence to standards of other regulatory agencies
  • Participates in hospital and ICU unit performance improvement activities to measure, assess, and control environmental hazards and risks, and the prevention of accidents and injuries
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors by the reduction and control of environmental hazards and risks, for the prevention of accidents and injuries
  • Maintains confidentiality, security, and integrity of data and information
  • Maintains and promotes professionalism
  • Interprets cardiac dysrhythmia, provides close monitoring and emergency treatment if necessary
  • Sets up arterial lines and central venous pressure monitoring
  • Calculates, administers, and monitors the effects of vasopressor, diuretics, antiarrhythmic agents, inotropic vasoactive agents, vasodilator/anti-hypertensive, beta-adrenergic blockers, and thrombolytics
  • Implements interventions appropriate to the age specific needs of the patient requiring admission to the ICU
  • Augments staffing of other nursing units during the time of low census in ICU
  • Remains updated on the current CMS and Joint Commission restraint standards to ensure compliance
  • Makes appropriate and safe patient assignments, facilitates safe patient flow of admissions, discharges and transfers
  • Communicates with the house supervisor and staff nurses about patient status changes
  • Promotes cohesiveness among the inter-disciplinary team
  • Oversight of all agency and contract staff
  • Provides first class customer service to both internal and external customers and responds to inquiries, compliments, and/or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency
  • Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities
  • Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types
  • Maintains a clean, organized work area and ensures a safe environment
  • Maintains and promotes professionalism
  • Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics
  • Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines for assigned area
Competencies:

  • Ability to operate ventilators, CPAP, and BIPAP equipment when a respiratory therapist in not available
  • Able to follow instructions, both written and oral
  • Able to adhere to all scheduling and attendance requirements
  • Honesty, truthfulness, reliability, accountability
  • Able to read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of Chickasaw Nation, departmental, divisional and all other rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies and documentation requirements
  • Basic understanding of cardiac rhythms
  • Knowledge of common IV push medications and nursing considerations
  • Learn and apply Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Privacy Act, Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), Freedom of Information Act, Compliance Standards, Joint Commission Accreditation, and other various regulations
  • Able to verbally communicate in a professional and positive manner with other team members, departments, guests and management
  • Communicates clinical information to patient in emergent or urgent settings
  • Maintains clear and complete employee health records

  • Skilled in operating a computer and/or other equipment related to specific role (i.e. automated currency counters, calculator, projector, binding machine, other related office equipment)

Education:
Essential:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required


Credentials:
Essential:
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
  • Pass general background check
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Registered Nurse
  • Must pass internal Medication Test


Essential:
  • Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire
Working Conditions:

  • Stressful environment due to any or a combination of deadlines, pressures, multiple tasks, lines of communication, risks, speed of operations, etc.
  • Works in a hospital or clinic environment
