Job Description: ABOUT THE POSITION The Department of Surgery and Specialty Medicine at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) seeks a visionary physician educator to serve as founding faculty and Section Chief in Psychiatry. This full-time, non-tenure position offers the opportunity to champion the integration of mental health throughout the medical education curriculum, with academic rank of Associate or Full Professor determined by The Chicago School and IllinoisCOM's academic rank policy. The successful clinician-educator will lead curriculum development across both pre-clinical and clinical phases, directing the Mind & Medicine course series and build the Psychiatry core rotation. Additional responsibilities include faculty recruitment and development, establishing clinical partnerships, and fostering research initiatives and community engagement. We seek a dedicated educator and innovative leader with deep expertise in psychiatry and understanding of the interconnectedness of mental and physical health. The successful candidate will create a collaborative, student-focused environment that aligns with IllinoisCOM's mission to train physicians who deliver integrated, patient-centered care addressing both physical and mental health needs. PRINCIPAL DUTIES Leadership & Administration ·Provide visionary leadership for the integration of mental health-centered curriculum within the IllinoisCOM Lead curriculum development and assessment for the Psychiatry clinical rotation Assist in recruitment, mentoring, and development of faculty members within the department Maintain partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies Teaching, Curriculum Development, & Student Success Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative, holistic psychiatric medicine curriculum Teach medical students using evidence-based instructional methods, including case-based and small-group learning Support student coaching, mentoring, and professional development in clinical and academic settings Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate mental health-centering content across the curriculum Service Represent the College in professional organizations and events Assist where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts Participate in college and University committees Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and service-learning programs Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education Engage in clinical practice (strongly encouraged) Research & Scholarly Activity Promote a culture of research and scholarship Support faculty and student research Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to enhance research initiatives Ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities BASIC QUALIFICATIONS DO degree with board certification in related specialty At least five (5) years of experience in medical education, residency training, or faculty leadership Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles in training At least five (5) years of clinical practice IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS Experience as a department chair, program director, or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program Strong background in educational innovation, simulation-based training, and competency-based assessment Established record of research and scholarly activity in primary care or medical education Demonstrated commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education POSITION DETAILS Salary range: $170,000 - $250,000 annually, commensurate with experience and academic rank Location: Chicago, IL (Relocation assistance available for eligible candidates) Reports to: Chair of Surgery and Specialty Medicine Employment Type: Full-time Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States Compensation & Benefits This opportunity is budgeted at $170,000 - $250,000 annual base compensation.
