What are the responsibilities and job description for the The Chase Brock Experience Auditions position at The Chase Brock Experience?
DESCRIPTION
The Chase Brock Experience is seeking excellent, versatile dancer-actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds for onstage and understudy roles in its 20th Anniversary Season, which will feature 4 world premiere works, 6 repertory revivals, 2 New York City engagements (May and November 2027), several tour dates (February, April, August and September 2027) and multiple festival appearances (mostly June-August and October 2027).
Dancer-actors should have excellent ballet technique, exceptional musicality, strong natural acting skills, some training or ability in tap/percussive dance forms and should specialize in either modern/contemporary or jazz/theater dance. Pointe work, tumbling, hip-hop inflected movement and folk dance forms make occasional appearances in the repertory, so experience in any of those areas is useful but not required. CBE will consider dancers of any/all genders for all roles.
Dancers do not need to be available for the entire span of dates mentioned above to audition. Some dancers may be offered the entire season of 2027 activities, but most dancers will be cast according to the needs of the particular repertory or production.
Pay varies from project to project, with rehearsals for New York engagements and tours paying $25-30/hr and tech/performance periods paying $1000-$1250/week plus per diem, housing and transportation when out of NYC. Festivals and one-off events typically pay a flat fee, often ranging from $500 to $1000, and are typically rehearsed over 1-2 weeks. Rehearsal takes place primarily in NYC with the possibility of some rehearsals taking place in residencies at Modern Accord Depot in Accord, NY or other residency venues in the Hudson Valley. All dancers are hired as 1099 contractors.
Auditions will be held by appointment Monday November 2nd and Wednesday November 4th, at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm each day. The same material (3 contrasting excerpts) will be taught in each 2-hr slot, with a potential callback Thursday November 5th 10am-2pm. To audition, you must be available for one (1) 2-hr appointment as well as the entire callback.
To be considered, please e-mail your resume, headshot or dance photos and link to reel or web site to [email protected] by Wednesday October 28th and you will be contacted to schedule an appointment if there is interest. We will consider candidates on a rolling basis, with all audition invitations made no later than Friday October 30th or as soon as we have reached our 260-dancer capacity (we are able to accommodate 30 dancers per 2-hr appointment).
If you receive an invitation, please come warm and ready to dance. Please bring ballet shoes and soft jazz shoes or boots if you have them, and be prepared to dance barefoot or in socks as well.
Thank you!
