Marketing and Communications Manager
Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for all communications and marketing activities of The Chamber, including dissemination of information to the membership, media relations, and promotion of events, programs, campaigns, and initiatives.
Requirements
- Provides proactive leadership and strategic direction for all communications and marketing efforts of The Chamber, including the development and execution of an annual strategic plan for communications and marketing
- Compiles, edits, distributes, and promotes Chamber news and information through the Member News Weekly email newsletter
- Manages The Chamber’s social media activities among multiple platforms and consistently seeks innovative ways to increase engagement among members, stakeholders, and the community-at-large
- Actively maintains The Chamber’s primary website, westalabamachamber.com, and consistently seeks avenues to increase website visits
- Serves as Editor of the Chamber’s publications and coordinates all aspects of their development
- Manages all aspects of The Chamber’s media relations efforts, including, but not limited to:
o maintains a comprehensive and updated database of media contacts
o develops and maintains a positive relationship with all media outlets
o writes and distributes frequent press releases about Chamber news and information
o writes and distributes media notifications for all major Chamber events and activities
o coordinate press conferences and media coverage at major Chamber events
- Coordinates all print, digital, and media marketing efforts of The Chamber, including the strategic promotion of events, programs, campaigns, and initiatives
- Manages the strategic use of in-kind media trades made available through the Chamber’s Capital Campaign
- Ensures the fulfillment of all communications and marketing benefits associated with event and program sponsorships sold through the annual Total Resource Campaign
- Coordinates professional photography and/or video production for major Chamber events and activities
- Coordinates all aspects of a consistent internship program for communications and marketing projects, including the recruitment, selection, and management of student interns
- Serves as the primary staff liaison to the Awards Nomination Council.
- Assists with maintenance of The Chamber’s membership database and calendar of events
- Prepares monthly communications reports for management and volunteer leadership
- Works collaboratively with staff colleagues and volunteer leadership on all Chamber events, programs, campaigns, and initiatives
- Coordinates special events and projects, as assigned
Requirements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in graphic design
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Self-starter with a professional appearance
- Ability to perform job function with minimal daily supervision
- Thinks “outside the box” to offer new ideas, strategies, and solutions
- Capable of maintaining sensitive and confidential information
- Must be a collaborative team player who works well in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Must be able to work normal hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Participation in occasional early morning and evening meetings and events is required
- Occasional out-of-town and overnight travel may be required
Accountability
- Reports directly to the Senior Director of Programs and Operations
- Maintains a high ethical standard in dealing with information of a highly confidential nature
- Accountable to fellow staff members and volunteer leaders by ensuring their needs are met and questions are answered in a friendly and professional manner
- Works cooperatively and positively with all Chamber staff members and volunteers to promote an environment of excellence and teamwork
- Exhibits a total commitment to maintaining high-quality customer service standards of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama; demonstrates exceptional customer service skills in dealing with members, investors, colleagues, tenants, media professionals, public officials, vendors, and all external Chamber contacts
