What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook Centralized Kitchen position at The Centers?
Job Summary
Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking and packaging all meals in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining high standards of quality. This position also ensures that all kitchen and food prep areas are cleaned and sanitized daily.
Job Qualifications
- At least 1 year working as a cook in a food service kitchen.
- Serve Safe Certified is preferred, the ability to acquire certification within one year of hire is required.
- Experience in institutional (large scale) meal planning and preparation preferred.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and portion ingredients prior to cooking, including washing, cutting, and marinating according to all applicable guidelines.
- Follow recipes and ensure consistent quality.
- Collaborates with the Food Service Manager, modifies preparation and/or daily menu to accommodate the needs of clients.
- Assist in inventory control by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages to the Food Service Manager
- Completes monthly food and non-food inventories, restocking as needed.
- Maintains accurate food service records.
- Adheres to all funder and regulator policies including, but not limited to, USDA, Department of Health, etc.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning practices.
- Adheres to Department of Health guidelines for sanitation of surfaces, storage units, appliances, and appropriate personal attire.
- Cleans refrigerator and freezer according to manufacturer’s recommendations
- Cleans/polishes stove, counters, and appliances daily.
- Properly labels and stores perishable and nonperishable food items.
- Sweeps and mops floor daily; mops spills as they occur.
Other Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in agency self-assessments, funder reviews, and required monitoring.
- Other related duties as assigned.
