Part-time (20-24 hours/week)

Reports to: Director of Programs
About the Role
The Intercultural and Collective Grief Program Coordinator provides caring, compassionate support to children who are new to the U.S. and have experienced loss. This position helps plan and run group programs, supports and guides volunteers, and works closely with schools and community partners to make sure every child and family feels seen, supported, and connected.
The Center for Grieving Children’s model is based on volunteer-facilitated peer support. The Coordinator helps make this model thrive by ensuring groups are welcoming, culturally sensitive, and effective for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Participant Support
- Coordinate and support weekly Intercultural Program groups (in-person and/or virtual).
- Collaborate with schools and community partners to connect children and families with the right supports.
- Help guide families through the referral and enrollment process.
- Follow up with families as needed and participate in program evaluation.
Community Collaboration and Outreach
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, community agencies, and cultural organizations.
- Develop and support collaborative projects that meet community needs.
- Provide outreach, presentations, or training to raise awareness of intercultural experiences and Center services.
- Participate in community and fundraising events that promote the Center’s mission.
Volunteer and Group Support
- Support and guide volunteers to deliver high-quality group experiences.
- Help address any participant or group concerns.
- Assist with volunteer training, especially around intercultural awareness and inclusion.
Organizational Support
- Maintain accurate program records and data.
- Contribute to new program ideas and initiatives.
- Support other Center activities as needed, including grief outreach and phone coverage.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants and volunteers.
Skills and Experience

Preferred skills include:
- Current LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, CLS, MEd or equivalent experience, conditional licenses considered.
- Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to plan and lead group activities for children.
- Experience collaborating with schools or community organizations.
- Comfort working with and supporting volunteers.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Organized, adaptable, and able to balance multiple priorities.
- Commitment to inclusion, compassion, and peer support.

About the Center for Grieving Children
The Center for Grieving Children is a place of loving support for children, teens, and families facing loss, change, and grief — whether from a death, serious illness, or collective trauma. Based in Portland with an additional site in Sanford, our peer-support programs and outreach reach over 4,000 people each year.
