Schedule:
Full-Time: Monday – Friday 9:20am-3:05pm
Some Job Responsibilities:
- Provides constant supervision and support to the assigned student throughout the entire school day, including in the classroom, during transitions, specials (e.g., Adaptive Physical Education, Art and Music), therapy sessions, recreational activities, community/field trips, and student arrival/dismissal times.
- Implements educational, therapeutic, and behavioral programs as directed by the Special Education Teacher and therapy/clinical staff.
- Assists the student with activities of daily living, promoting independence in accordance with the student’s individual plan.
- Supports the student in both instructional and non-instructional tasks as assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Collaborates effectively and professionally as part of the classroom team.
- Attends meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions as required by school leadership.
- Maintains a positive and cooperative relationship with school administration, staff, and families.
- Assists with data collection of the assigned students to provide information for necessary record keeping.
- Interacts with students in a consistent, supportive, and nurturing manner.
- Helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment, including care of materials and equipment.
- Shares all relevant information related to assigned student with the teachers, therapy staff and/or psychologist.
- Performs classroom-related duties as directed by the teacher(s) or teaching assistant.
- Follows all agency policies, procedures, and departmental guidelines.
- Completes and maintain SCIP and CRP certifications.
Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED;
- Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred;
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred;
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as (but not limited to); twisting, bending, crouching, pulling, pushing;
- Must be able to sit, walk, drive, and stand for prolonged periods of time;
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
