Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a Patient Safety Specialist who will assist with training MHTs for new hires and annual competencies. The Patient Safety Speciliast will ensure the implementation of programming is occurring on each unit. Specialist responds to all codes and provides verbal de-escalation as needed with escalated patients and assists MHTs, as needed.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: To provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. To ensure the safety and well being of these patients and to support the maintenance of therapeutic milieu.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide real-time training and coaching of new MHTs on the units, to include completion of competency assessments
- Models verbal de-escalation shills for new and current MHTs
- Provide documentation of on boarding meetings with new MHTs and address concerns, as needed
- Respond to all emergency codes to provide support and promote verbal de-escalation.
- Complete Milieu management rounds frequently and as needed
- Assist MHTs with enhancing their skills in group facilitation.
- Foster a culture of teamwork by assisting wherever necessary to improve unit structure and completion of tasks to promote patient safety
- Trainer for CPR & HWC and assists with ensuring staff maintain their current certification.
- Successfully completes all required trainings via in-services and/or Health stream in a timely manner

Requirements:
Education: High School Degree or equivalent is required. Certified Nursing Assistant preferred. Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
Experience: One - two (1-2) years of experience required. Two (2) years of related experience preferred. A knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
Additional Requirements: Successful completion Management Aggressive Behavior Training (HWC) before on the unit orientation and prior to assisting with restraining procedures. Successful certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association for CPR prior to taking an independent patient assignment.
