Risk and Loss Control Manager - 100% Fully Remote

The Captive Advantage
Boston, MA Remote Full Time
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/3/2027

We understand that confidentiality is important. We treat every application with complete discretion. We will never reach out to your current or former employer or share any information about your candidacy without your explicit permission.

Small team. Serious reach.

We're the only known group captive program created exclusively for human and social service organizations.

Our Member agencies serve adults and youth with developmental disabilities, mental health and behavioral challenges, and individuals in recovery, across residential and community-based settings. When risk isn't managed well at these organizations, services get interrupted and the people who depend on them feel it first. Across our 18 Member organizations, we're the ones making sure that doesn't happen.

As Risk and Loss Control Manager, you will conduct risk assessments and loss-control reviews on site with Members, analyse loss data to spot trends and emerging exposures, and turn what you find into practical resources Members can put to work. You'll present those findings to our Members and TCA committees, and collaborate with members to close the gaps you identify. You'll be a trusted advisor embedded in our Member agencies' risk management and loss control practices - a rare chance for your expertise to shape how these organizations operate and help set best-practice standards across the industry.

You'll report to the Executive Director, Risk Management and work alongside a leadership team you can reach in a single message or call.

About The Captive Advantage

The Captive Advantage (TCA) is a licensed captive insurance company built exclusively for human and social service organizations — one of the first of its kind in the country. Founded in 2009, we serve nonprofits working directly with families, children, and at-risk individuals, where the exposures are complex and conventional insurance rarely fits well.

Our Members are also our owners. That structure allows us to return savings through yearly dividend payouts rather than to outside shareholders. Since inception, our Members have realized over $30 million in premium savings and received nearly $16 million in dividends, money that goes straight back to them, supporting their mission.

What You'll OwnRisk strategy and program development

▪ Identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor operational and strategic risk across Member organizations

▪ Build the tools, practices, and policies used to analyze and report program and agency risk, and improve them as industry standards change

▪ Collaborate on and develop best-practice guides and tools

▪ Report on emerging risk trends to TCA leadership, translating data into decisions

Committee leadership

▪ Prepare agendas, capture minutes, and drive follow-through for TCA Committees and sub-committees

▪ Serve as a visible, accessible resource to Member agencies

▪ Build collaborative relationships which our Members can rely on

▪ Serve as a trusted ambassador for our members and the organization

Insurance and loss control

▪ Prepare loss analyses, identify exposures, recommend solutions, and champion loss prevention

▪ Formulate and develop risk mitigation strategies that reduce exposure across the Captive

▪ Analyze claims data for record keeping and loss forecasting

What Success Looks Like

▪ First 90 days: You're beginning to meet with our Member agencies, build real relationships, and develop a working understanding of how they operate. You'll be helping prepare and facilitate TCA Committees.

▪ By six 6 months: You've taken ownership of a defined piece of TCA's risk operations, and you'll be able to run a portion of the work independently.

▪ By the end of 12 – 18 months: Members come to you directly, loss trends are visible and tracked, and the Executive Director, Risk Management relies on your judgment and your deliverables.

Who Thrives Here

▪ You've worked in nonprofit human services, so you understand standards, regulatory environments, and risks

▪ You're resourceful, you spot what a program needs and show up with options

▪ You enjoy working as a team and can also bring a project to the finish line on your own

▪ You build trust fast. Executive directors, program staff, brokers, and government agencies value your perspective and trust your judgment.

▪ You effectively communicate with professional associations, agency leadership, and frontline staff

▪ You treat Members as teammates, not auditees

▪ You work independently and keep leadership informed on what matters, without needing to be chased
