Position Overview:
The Ultrasound Technician supports urology providers by performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in an outpatient urology clinic setting. This role is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining compliance with clinic policies, accreditation standards, and applicable regulations.
Education
Desired/Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
- Current ARDMS certification (e.g., ABD, OB/GYN, or RVT as applicable).
- State licensure or registration as required.
- CPR/BLS certification preferred.
- Prior experience in an outpatient or specialty clinic setting preferred; urology experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of urologic anatomy and ultrasound imaging techniques.
- Ability to obtain accurate measurements and high-quality diagnostic images.
- Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, safety, and professional ethics.
- Perform diagnostic X-ray procedures as ordered by urology providers, including but not limited to KUBs, abdominal imaging, and fluoroscopy-assisted procedures (if applicable and credentialed).
- Prepare patients for imaging exams by explaining procedures, positioning patients appropriately, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Operate and maintain radiologic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety standards.
- Follow radiation safety protocols, including proper shielding and ALARA principles.
- Verify imaging orders and patient identification prior to procedures.
- Accurately document imaging performed in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist providers during in-office urologic procedures requiring imaging support when appropriate.
- Maintain imaging room cleanliness and ensure supplies are stocked and available.
- Perform routine quality control checks on X-ray equipment and report any malfunctions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and clinic policies regarding radiologic services, HIPAA, and patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
