OPWDD Self Direction Case working at Hamaspik of Kings County
Employees are interviewed, hired, trained and supervised by the parents of the children
JOB PAY:
Pay is $18 per hour
40 hours a week
SCHEDULE: 40 HOURS A WEEK
Sunday 10am-8pm 10 hrs
Monday 3pm-9pm 6 hrs
Tuesday 3pm-9pm 6 hrs
Wednesday OFF
Thursday 3pm-9pm 6 hrs
Friday OFF
Saturday 10am-10pm 12 hrs
LOCATION: Same location daily

JOB DUTIES:
Working with special needs and disabled pre teens and teens with autism, adhd, mobility issues and behavior issues
Job is performed in the client's home and in the community
Duties:
In the home:
1. Babysitting the children when parents leave the home, 2. Babysitting the children when parents need free time in the home, 3. Feeding, bathing, and cleaning up after the children, 4. Reading books to children, Painting and coloring with the children, playing video games with the children, 5. Taking the children on walks to the store and to sight see around the neighborhood, 6. Giving the children medicine and skincare, 7. Changing diapers of the child and keeping them neat, clean and safe at all times. 8. Providing companionship and friendship to the child. 8. Working on goals with the children to help gain independence. 9. Providing respite relief to caregivers.
In the community:
1. Taking the children to amusement parks, 2. Taking the children to the playground, 3. Accompanying children on family trips and outings, 4. Taking the children to kiddie pools and sprinklers, 5. Taking the children to indoor bounce houses and play places. 6. Giving the children medicine and skincare, 7. Changing diapers of the children and keeping them neat, clean and safe at all times. 8. Providing companionship and friendship to the children. 9. Working on goals with the children to help gain independence. 10. Providing respite relief to caregivers (babysitting).
REQUIREMENTS:
*Must have at least 1 year of VERIFIABLE experience caring for special needs or disabled children or adults (either professionally or personally)
*Must be flexible, open and available for last minute schedule changes and on call hours
*Must be willing to work 12 hour shift on weekends straight through with minimal breaks (children cannot be left alone)
*Must be able to work one full weekend a month from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon (either in the clients home or your home)
*Must be able to work during ALL school holidays EXCEPT Easter Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (advance notice will be given)
*Must be willing to change diapers of children and teenagers (Not potty trained)
*Must be willing to use lightweight transport wheelchair when traveling in the community (Children have some mobility issues)
*Must be able to lift children and teenagers to assist them with getting on beds and swings
*Must be willing to deal with behaviors in a positive manner without verbal or physical abuse
*Must have a great deal of patience and compassion
