About the Role
The Rapid Response & Research Associate role will help The Bulwark produce and distribute political journalism across platforms. This is an entry-level, full-time position on a fast-moving team, with room to grow into specialized responsibilities based on individual strengths. If you’re organized, obsessed with politics, and eager to learn about journalism, this role offers meaningful hands-on experience.
As a Research & Rapid Response Associate, you will support multiple parts of The Bulwark’s operations, including:
- Rapid response: Support real-time clipping of political events, hearings, debates, and breaking news for rapid distribution across channels.
- Research: Gather background information, track news developments, and support prep for talent and guest interviews across written and video products.
- Content support: Work alongside editors/writers/producers to help report out news articles and organize newsletters, build out podcast opportunities, and develop concepts for video projects.
- Social media: Assist the social team with creating content across platforms like X, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Reddit, etc.
- Community engagement: Help maintain a responsive presence in comments, social channels, and reader emails, flagging notable insights and feedback.
You bring:
- Passion about politics, journalism, and how news is produced and distributed.
- Experience with research, video editing tools, or online community moderation is a plus.
- Experience with journalism–whether that’s writing for a school newspaper or a journalism degree–is a plus.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment. Seriously, the news moves FAST and it can be overwhelming at times.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
