The Bug Company, a leader in the breeding and supply of live insects, is excited to announce a new vacancy for the role of Husbandry Worker. As a key member of our husbandry team, the selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining and nurturing our diverse insect colonies which are crucial to our company's success and our customers' needs.
Located in our main production facility, this full-time position requires the employee to be on-site. Please note, this is not a remote job. The role demands a committed individual who thrives in a dynamically changing environment where adherence to cleanliness and process is as important as caring for the live products. Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform daily care routines for various insect species, including feeding, habitat cleaning, and monitoring health conditions.
- Assist in the setup, cleaning, and maintenance of rearing equipment and facilities.
- Identify and address any issues related to the insect habitats, and report to the supervisor.
- Prepare diets and feed for different insect species.
- Engage in continuous learning and husbandry techniques to improve the welfare of the insects and the efficiency of practices.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed, showing flexibility and adaptability in taking on additional responsibilities.
Requirements
- Reliability in maintaining a clean and organized work environment is crucial for the health and welfare of the insects.
- Ability to prepare necessary materials and perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Efficient in working both independently and as a team member, with strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Professional demeanor and a friendly attitude towards co-workers and other staff within the facility.
- Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by management, adaptable to changing needs and conditions.
- A willingness to adhere to all company guidelines and procedures, consistently aiming for the highest industry practices.
- Ability to work in a dusty, hot, and humid environment, and withstand physically demanding tasks.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs frequently and engage in frequent standing, squatting, kneeling, bending, and carrying.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply them in high-pressure situations.
- Fluency in English with the ability to understand and communicate instructions effectively.
- Basic mathematical skills, including counting to 100.
- Skilled in the use of tools like box cutters and tape guns for preparation and packaging tasks.
- Must be able to work directly with and handle live insects without hesitation.
Schedule
Tuesday - Saturday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
or
Tuesday - Thursday 7:30-4:00 and Friday-Satuday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
**Hours will fluctuate based on the shipping schedules and company needs**
