The House Parent serves as a full-time, live-in member of the Residence Life team and reports directly to the Director of Residence Life. This role is responsible for the daily care, supervision, and holistic development of boarding students within an assigned residential house. The House Parent fosters a safe, structured, and nurturing home environment that supports students’ academic success, personal growth, emotional well-being, and character development. Working collaboratively with fellow House Parents, Monitors, faculty, Health Services, and families, this position plays a critical role in cultivating a vibrant residential community that reflects the mission and values of Brook Hill.

Dates to be aware of:

New Faculty contracts start August 1, 2026 and the school year concludes before Memorial Day 2027. Faculty are under contract from August 1 - July 31, which reflects the bi-monthly payment schedule and health benefits plan year for eligible employees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight duty as part of a residential schedule
  • Must reside in a designated on-campus apartment during the academic year (August 1 – May 31; housing provided through July 31)
  • Valid driver’s license required; must obtain (or be willing and able to obtain) a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or working closely with high school-aged students
  • Ability to build positive relationships with adolescents while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in a residential setting, including emergency and student safety situations

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Residential Life & Student Care

  • Reside in assigned on-campus apartment within a boarding student house.
  • Provide daily supervision, care, and mentorship for up to 20 boarding students, fostering a structured, supportive, and nurturing residential environment.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students while promoting personal growth, character development, and emotional well-being.
  • Guide students in academic, social, and extracurricular decision-making, encouraging responsibility and independence.
  • Enforce and model adherence to the Residence Life Handbook, maintaining clear expectations for behavior and community standards.
  • Fulfill assigned duties according to the established monitoring schedule, including four weekday evenings and every other weekend. House Parents maintain continuous responsibility for assigned students’ care, supervision, and well-being, including times when they are not actively on duty.

Community Culture & Student Engagement

  • Cultivate an inclusive and connected residential culture within the assigned boarding house that reflects and engages the broader Brook Hill community, including boarding and day students, and faculty and staff across departments.
  • Plan and lead student activities, including shopping trips, outings, and recreational events that enhance student life and community engagement.
  • Participate actively in school life, including events, duties, and community-building initiatives beyond the boarding houses.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate closely with fellow House Parents and Monitors to ensure consistent expectations, supervision, and student support across the residential program. All Residence Life staff play a critical role in the well-being of students and the success of the residential program.
  • Partner with other House Parents to support and oversee Monitors through training, coaching, and regular feedback to ensure effective supervision and adherence to residential expectations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and school leadership to support student academic success, holistic development, and adherence to the Student Handbook and campus standards.
  • Maintain regular, proactive communication with both the Residence Life and Health Services teams regarding student well-being and concerns.
  • Partner with parents/guardians through consistent, professional communication, providing updates on student progress and addressing concerns in a timely manner.

Student Safety & Health

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly residential environment in compliance with school policies and applicable regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations regardless of schedule, ensuring all protocols and procedures are followed and that incident reporting is completed promptly both at the time of the event and through appropriate follow-up.
  • Follow all procedures and directives from the Health Services team regarding student medical care and medication administration. No care or medication should be provided without the express direction of the Health Services team, either at the time of event or in accordance with written policy.
  • Ensure all visitors comply with security procedures, including check-in protocols, background checks, and applicable safety requirements. No visitor will stay on campus overnight or past curfew without express permission from the Director of Residence Life.

Program Support & Professional Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the residential program by identifying needs, recommending solutions, and supporting implementation of initiatives.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Residence Life team through administrative, planning, and systems-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Residence Life; responsibilities may require completion both during and outside scheduled monitoring hours as needed.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Residence Life team, Health Services team, and supervisor, that may occur outside of the scheduled monitoring hours.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in best practices in student life, adolescent development, and residential education.
  • Participate in the broader ministry of Brook Hill by contributing time, talent and treasure beyond assigned role and responsibilities.


    Total Compensation Package includes:

    • Base salary
    • On-campus 3-bedroom apartment (approximately 1,800 square feet) from August 1 – July 31 for the employee and immediate family members only
    • Meals provided during the academic year while boarding students are on campus (3 per weekday; 2 on the weekends) for the employee and immediate family members only
    • Utilities, internet, and basic cable
    • Facility use:
      • Personal use of the school’s weight room, grounds, and facilities when not in use by other departments
      • Facility use is limited to the employee and immediate family; use for groups, events, or non-personal purposes requires prior approval in accordance with the school’s facility use policies
    • Comprehensive benefits package (inquire with Human Resources for details)
