Teacher of Middle and Upper School Classics (One Year)

 

The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K–12, welcomes candidates for a one year, full-time position as a Teacher of Middle and Upper School Classics beginning August 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • teaching five courses in the Classics curriculum, which includes Latin in grades seven through twelve and Greek in grades eleven and twelve

  • participating in grade-level team planning meetings with Classics colleagues

  • implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy

  • contributing to the life of the school and the students outside of the department

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • have three to five years of teaching experience

  • have an advanced degree in Classics 

  • possess excellent oral and written communication skills

  • demonstrate a sincere interest in young people

  • have a commitment to teaching both Middle and Upper School students

  • have a commitment to helping students think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities

  • be collegial and enjoy working collaboratively on the curriculum

  • demonstrate cultural competency

Salary

In 2025–2026, the total salary for this position ranges from $72,500 to $153,500 depending on years of full-time teaching experience. Salaries are updated annually in February.
