What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students, Lower School position at The Boys' Latin School of Maryland?
The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland, an independent K-12 boys’ school, seeks an enthusiastic Dean of Students to begin in August 2026. The Dean of Students, Lower School is a 10-month administrative position reporting to the Head of Lower School. The Dean is responsible for fostering a positive, structured, and supportive student environment that promotes strong character, responsible behavior, and social-emotional growth. This role serves as the primary leader for student life and culture in the Lower School and works closely with faculty, students, and families to uphold community standards. Along with the responsibilities outlined below, the Dean would be responsible for teaching up to two classes per day as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
Student Culture & Community Leadership
- Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that supports student safety, well-being, and belonging
- Develop and uphold clear expectations for student behavior aligned with school values
- Serve as a visible and accessible presence throughout the school day
- Lead the management of student behavior, including addressing disciplinary issues in a fair, consistent, and educational manner
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and faculty regarding behavioral expectations and outcomes
- Partner with teachers and families to develop and implement behavior support plans when needed
- Oversee and coordinate the Lower School House System to promote community, leadership, and positive behavior
- Plan and manage Lower School clubs and after-school programs
- Support student leadership opportunities and community-building activities
- Serve as a resource to teachers on classroom management and student behavior strategies
- Collaborate with faculty to support students’ social-emotional development
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of Lower School faculty
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with families
- Serve as a key point of contact for parent concerns related to student behavior and well-being
- Support the Head of Lower School in maintaining smooth daily operations
- Serve in a leadership capacity when the Head of Lower School is unavailable
- Serve on the Lower School Admissions Committee
- Participate in and support admissions and community events
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Elementary Education, with experience in a student-facing role. A master’s degree in School Administration or a similar focus is highly desired.
