What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver position at The Bowery Mission?
The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative community with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish.
As a key member of the Logistics Team, the Driver is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of food and other items across multiple Bowery sites and the NYC area.
Specific Responsibilities but are not limited to:
- Work driving shifts as assigned. You will be required to work Saturdays and on rare occasions late shifts.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Communicate with Supervisor and Ministry Staff daily.
- Enter all stops on Log Sheets and turn in Log Sheet after every shift.
- Physical Review of the assigned vehicle daily and report any visible defects. Maintain the appearance of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist Staff and Students with the proper drop-off, organizing and cleaning of all storage areas in the buildings.
- Duties include reaching, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday: 1:00am – 9:30am, some Holidays included.
Requirements:
- Embraces the organization's Statement of Faith.
- 2- 3 years of relevant experience.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid and satisfactory driver’s license.
- Familiarity with New York City traffic laws.
Preferred:
- Ability to problem-solve efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
