What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Laborer position at The Borough of Hanover?
The Borough is seeking energetic, reliable and hardworking Laborers to join our refuse collection team. The ideal candidate will be prepared to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Laborer will be responsible for helping with a range of tasks involving heavy lifting or manual labor requiring the physical strength. Some knowledge of hand tools used in construction and maintenance required. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Vehicle Operators License.
Entry level position in the Public Works department - responsibilities include:
- Manual labor in construction, refuse collection, and maintenance.
- Use of hand tools such as walking mowers, deck mowers, small snow blowers, air blowers, snow shovels, brooms, rakes, digging irons, shovels, picks, axes, pole clip lopper, anvil pruner, and string or line weed whackers
- Serve as a helper on power equipment.
- Assists in servicing and repair of equipment posing special safety problems, such as gas-powered blade trimmers, auger, snow blowers, chain saws, tractor and wide wheel riding mowers, concrete saws, plate tampers, whackers, air compressors, air drill and jack hammers, all under the supervision of a senior employee.
- Assists in building wooden structures.
- Digs drainage ditches, cleans out culverts, cuts grass, and fills in washouts.
- Related work as required.
